The Throw Down begins at 5:30 p.m. and concludes at 7:30 p.m. in time for competitors with tickets for Oklahoma! to be seated for the 8 p.m. curtain. Dan Macey, a food stylist who regularly works with the Food Network and The View and recently worked with Valerie Bertinelli and Gwyneth Paltrow, will judge along with Shirlee Neumeyer, former co-owner of The Inn of the Falcon Restaurant in Bethlehem, and Maria Liberati, an award-winning cookbook author and celebrity chef . The judges will choose the very first Best of Show Award to be presented by the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival.
"Everyone is welcome to participate," said Molly Gilley, co-chair of the PSF annual gala, and the originator of the idea. "It will be very casual and fun, and we hope those who love to entertain will participate even if they aren't seeing Oklahoma! that night." Gilley said that participants may bring a table and chairs or just a blanket for their picnic. "Whatever people want to do and whatever look they want their picnic to have is fine. Presentation is the key and we leave it up to them how elaborate or how simple they want to make it."
Competitors may want to reserve more than one 10 by 10 spaces if they plan to go big or go home.
The Throw Down picnic will be held rain or shine. In case of rain, the picnic will be held in the DeSales University Center.
Registration is $25 and benefits the PSF Linny Fowler WillPower Tour which performs at high schools and middle schools in the Lehigh Valley and beyond each fall. Register today!
