Robert Fagle

Robert Fagles (Translator, The Iliad) (1933-2008) went to Amherst College, and graduated with a degree in English in 1955. He studied Latin and Greek on the side at Amherst and graduated from Yale Graduate School with his Master’s and Ph.D. in English. Fagles taught English and comparative literature for many years at Princeton University. His translations include The Oresteia by Aeschylus, and Sophocles’ three Theban plays (Antigone, Oedipus the King and Oedipus at Colonus), Virgil’s Aeneid, and Homer’s The Odyssey.
