Casting: seeking a girl of African descent to play the speaking role of Raynell in August Wilson’s Fences

Help us cast the youngest role in our season.

We are in search of families/households in the area with an 8- to 12-year-old young Black girl (to play a 7-8 year old) who might enjoy the following casting opportunity. Please feel free to forward if you might know such a family.

Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, the professional theatre in residence at DeSales University, is seeking a girl of African descent to play the speaking role of Raynell in August Wilson’s Fences this summer at PSF. The young actress should also feel comfortable singing. Rehearsals for this role begin July 12, opening is July 29, closing is August 7. Four weeks of involvement total. This is a fully professional production with Equity actors. This role will be cast with a non-union local child actor or a local child who is a member of Actors’ Equity Association. In the play, the girl represents the hope for the future.

According to union regulations for this production, the young actor cast in this role will be paid $790 week. Reliable transportation is a necessity. The real value is the experience of a lifetime and a professional credit for the resume. There will be 7 performances per week during the two weeks of the run.

Please inquire asap by emailing casting@pashakespeare.org.

Interested young actors will submit a self-taped audition (video). Both side 1 and side 2 (links below) should be taped as well as 1 taped song of the actor’s choice sung acapella.
