Center Valley, PA – Noted Shakespearean and Emmy-nominated television actor Keith Hamilton Cobb will portray the charismatic warrior general and politician Julius Caesar in the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival’s 25th anniversary season’s production this summer.
Cobb, who has performed at leading regional theatres around the U.S. and was a series regular on The Young and The Restless, All My Children, Andromeda, and Noah’s Arc, “brings a commanding presence and magnetism, which is crucial given that Caesar was one of the most interesting political leaders in history and one of Shakespeare’s most famous characters,” says Producing Artistic Director Patrick Mulcahy, who returns to the directing chair for this production.
“Julius Caesar explores a full spectrum of both public and private selves,” he says. “Even in the corridors of power, there are deeply intimate relationships, and Keith will be great at unpacking the full range of experience that Shakespeare’s breadth of insight into humanity requires.”
Cobb is most widely recognized for the landmark roles he created for television: Noah Keefer for ABC’s All My Children, which garnered an Emmy Award nomination; the role of galactic mercenary Tyr Anasazi for Gene Rodenberry’s Andromeda; the role of Damon Porter for CBS’s The Young and the Restless; and the role of Quincy Abrams for the series, Noah’s Arc on the Logo network.
His career includes twelve years in Los Angeles where he guest starred on multiple television shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Boston Common, Suddenly Susan, One on One, The Twilight Zone, and CSI Miami.
In 1996, Cobb was named to People magazine’s annual “50 most beautiful people” list.
Cobb’s regional theatre credits include such prestigious venues as The Actors Theatre of Louisville, The Shakespeare Theatre of Washington D.C., The Denver Theatre Center, The Huntington Theatre Company, The Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, The Geva Theatre Center and many others. His classical roles include Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Aufidius in Coriolanus, Laertes in Hamlet, and Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet. Contemporary roles include David Mamet’s Race, August Wilson’s Jitney, and Lynn Nottage’s Ruined.
In addition, Cobb created and performs his solo play, American Moor, which examines the experience and perspective of black men in America through the metaphor of William Shakespeare’s character, Othello.
To be performed in the Festival’s intimate Schubert Theatre, the production previews June 22 and 23, opens June 24, and continues through July 17. Single tickets start at $25; youth prices are available.
