Center Valley, PA – Oscar Wilde\u2019s scintillating wit and romantic archetypes fill one of the most celebrated comedies of all time.\u00a0\u00a0The Importance of Being Earnest<\/em>\u00a0opens on the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival\u2019s main stage Friday, July 12, with previews July 10 and 11, and runs through August 4.\u00a0The Importance of Being Earnest\u00a0<\/em>will play in repertory with\u00a0Measure for Measure<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Importance of Being Earnest<\/em>\u00a0offers a tale of two well-to-do gentlemen, John Worthing played by\u00a0Blake Ellis<\/strong>\u00a0and Algernon Moncrieff played by\u00a0Zack Robidas<\/strong>, as they pursue countryside adventures, love, and identities \u2013 both real and invented. Gwendolen Fairfax captures John\u2019s heart and is performed by\u00a0Alexie Gilmore<\/strong>, whose feature film credits include starring opposite Robin Williams in\u00a0World\u2019s Greatest Dad<\/em>\u00a0and Matthew McConaughey in\u00a0Surfer Dude<\/em>. Cecily Cardew, played by\u00a0Erin Partin<\/strong>, catches Algernon\u2019s eye.<\/p>\n

Algernon and John\u2019s falsified identities prevail until the young gents cross paths with the indomitable Lady Bracknell, Wilde\u2019s symbol of Victorian ethics run amok. Director and PSF veteran\u00a0Jim Helsinger<\/strong>\u00a0plays Lady Bracknell, in the tradition of great male comedic actors in the role.<\/p>\n

The cast includes\u00a0Wayne S. Turney<\/strong>\u00a0as Rev. Canon Chasuble, and\u00a0Brad DePlanche<\/strong>\u00a0as John Worthing\u2019s butler, Merriman. Playing Miss Prism, Cecily\u2019s governess is\u00a0Suzanne O\u2019Donnell<\/strong>, while\u00a0Greg Wood<\/strong>\u00a0takes on the role of Lane, Algernon\u2019s butler.<\/p>\n

Lighting is designed by two-time Barrymore award winner\u00a0Thom Weaver<\/strong>. Scenic design is by six-time Emmy winner\u00a0Bob Phillips<\/strong>.\u00a0Lisa Zinni<\/strong>\u00a0designed the costumes, and sound design us created by\u00a0Matthew Given<\/strong>, PSF\u2019s resident designer.\u00a0Jane Ridley<\/strong>\u00a0is the accent coach.\u00a0Stacy Renee Norwood<\/strong>\u00a0serves as stage manager, with\u00a0Alison Hassman<\/strong>\u00a0as assistant stage manager.\u00a0Matt Pfeiffer<\/strong>\u00a0serves as associate director.<\/p>\n
