Center Valley, PA \u2013 Shakespeare\u2019s last play,\u00a0The Tempest,\u00a0<\/em>is the first of three Shakespeare plays to open during the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival\u2019s 21st season.
\nWith preview performances on June 20 and 21,\u00a0The Tem<\/a>pest\u00a0<\/em>opens June 22 in the Schubert Theatre at the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts on the Center Valley campus of DeSales University.<\/p>\n

Appearing in his 19th\u00a0season with the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival,\u00a0Greg Wood<\/strong>\u00a0takes the stage as Prospero. Wood has starred in many shows throughout his PSF career, including Claudius in last year\u2019s\u00a0Hamlet\u00a0<\/em>(he previously played the title role in PSF\u2019s 1995 production), Richard in\u00a0Richard III<\/em>, Cyrano in\u00a0Cyrano de Bergerac<\/em>, and countless of other leading roles.<\/p>\n

Banished from his dukedom by his usurping brother, Prospero lords over an enchanted isle and raises a tempest that shipwrecks his enemies on its shores. When his beloved daughter Miranda falls in love with one of the castaways, Prospero is reawakened to the better angels of his nature.<\/p>\n

Jim Helsinger<\/strong>, who has directed and acted at the Festival for 16 seasons, directs a cast that includes many PSF veterans.\u00a0Alan Coates\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Carl N. Wallnau<\/strong>\u00a0appear as Alonso and Antonio respectively.\u00a0Richard B. Watson\u00a0<\/strong>appears as the earth monster Caliban.\u00a0Steven Dennis\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Wayne S. Turney\u00a0<\/strong>play Sebastian and Gonzalo, and\u00a0Eric Hissom\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Brad DePlanche<\/strong>\u00a0serve as Stephano and Trinculo. Among the several newcomers to the Festival are\u00a0Kelsey Formost\u00a0<\/strong>as Miranda and\u00a0Dameka Hayes\u00a0<\/strong>as the spirit Ariel.\u00a0Brandon Meeks<\/strong>\u00a0appears as Ferdinand.<\/p>\n

Bob Phillips<\/strong>\u00a0has designed the mysterious island where the tempest strikes.\u00a0Sam Fleming<\/strong>\u00a0has designed the costumes and\u00a0Thom Weaver,\u00a0<\/strong>the lighting.\u00a0Matthew Given<\/strong>\u00a0serves as the resident sound designer for the Festival, and\u00a0Stacy Renee Norwood\u00a0<\/strong>serves as the production stage manager.\u00a0Martha Ruskai<\/strong>\u00a0has designed the wigs and make-up,\u00a0Daniel Levy<\/strong>\u00a0has created the original compositions for the show, and\u00a0Dameka Hayes<\/strong>\u00a0has invented the original Ariel choreography.\u00a0Wayne S. Turney<\/strong>\u00a0serves as music director with\u00a0Magi Ross<\/strong>\u00a0as masque choreographer.
