One Singular Sensation: A Chorus Line<\/em>\u00a0opens at Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n

CENTER VALLEY, PA: June 17, 2022\u2014Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival opens the iconic Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical\u00a0A Chorus Line<\/em>.\u00a0The show previews June 22 & 23, opens June 24\u00a0and will run through July 10 at the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of DeSales University.<\/p>\n

A Chorus\u00a0<\/em>Line<\/em>\u00a0illuminates the ambitions of ensemble dancers in the final chorus audition for an upcoming Broadway show. One of the longest running Broadway musicals of all time,\u00a0A Chorus Line<\/em>\u00a0boasts classic numbers such as \u201cWhat I Did for Love,\u201d \u201cOne,\u201d \u201cI Can Do That,\u201d \u201cAt the Ballet,\u201d \u201cThe Music and the Mirror,\u201d and \u201cI Hope I Get It.\u201d<\/p>\n

After many months of casting, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival (PSF) has assembled a cast of many Broadway, television, and film actors, as well as veterans of national tours and regional theatres, several of whom have previously performed in the production.<\/p>\n

The cast is led by\u00a0James Harkness<\/strong>,\u00a0Sissy Bell<\/strong>, and\u00a0Patrick Higgins<\/strong>; and the creative team is led by Director and Choreographer\u00a0Luis Villabon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A newcomer to PSF, Harkness will portray Zach. He holds numerous Broadway credits including originating the lead role of Paul Williams in the Tony nominated\u00a0Ain\u2019t Too Proud \u2013 The Life and Times of the Temptations.\u00a0<\/em>Other Broadway credits include\u00a0The Carole King Musical<\/em>,\u00a0Chicago<\/em>,\u00a0Dream Girls<\/em>,\u00a0Aida<\/em>,\u00a0The Color Purple<\/em>, and\u00a0Guys and Dolls<\/em>.\u00a0 He also has a best director nomination, is an award-winning choreographer, and a songwriter.<\/p>\n

Also making their PSF debut is Bell, who will play the role of Cassie. A veteran of numerous Broadway shows (select:\u00a0Anastasia<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Tootsie<\/em>) and Off-Broadway productions, she has also participated as a dancer\/performer at the annual Tony Awards and at the Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade.<\/p>\n

Higgins, who makes his PSF debut in the role of Mark, recently played the leading role of Baby John in Steven Spielberg\u2019s film\u00a0West Side Story<\/em>\u00a0(landing his first professional film credit at the age of 15). He is presently pursuing his BFA in Musical Theatre at Montclair State University in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

They are joined by\u00a0Lauren Emily<\/strong>\u00a0Alagna<\/strong>\u00a0(Kristine),\u00a0Kathryn Brunner<\/strong>\u00a0(Val),\u00a0Bianca<\/strong>\u00a0Bulgarelli<\/strong>\u00a0(Bebe),\u00a0Julia Feeley<\/strong>\u00a0(Judy),\u00a0Madison Finney<\/strong>\u00a0(Shelia),\u00a0Musa Hitomi<\/strong>\u00a0(Connie),\u00a0Matthew Aaron Liotine<\/strong>\u00a0(Greg & Dance Captain),\u00a0Milan Maga\u00f1a<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(Diana),\u00a0<\/strong>Eddie Martin Morales<\/strong>\u00a0(Paul),\u00a0Brandon Moreno<\/strong>\u00a0(Larry),\u00a0Paul Watt-Morse<\/strong>\u00a0(Don),\u00a0<\/strong>Clint Maddox Thompson\u00a0<\/strong>(Al),\u00a0<\/strong>Emma Vielbig<\/strong>\u00a0(Maggie), and\u00a0Shaun-Avery Williams<\/strong>\u00a0(Richie).<\/p>\n

The company also includes\u00a0Jaylen Axel<\/strong>\u00a0(Butch),\u00a0Josiah Behrens<\/strong>\u00a0(Tom),\u00a0Josh Curran<\/strong>\u00a0(Roy),\u00a0Morgan Harrison<\/strong>\u00a0(Vicki),\u00a0Thomas Henke<\/strong>\u00a0(Bobby),\u00a0Marlena\u00a0<\/strong>L\u00f3pez Hilderley<\/strong>\u00a0(Tricia),\u00a0Justin Lopez<\/strong>\u00a0(Patrick),\u00a0Andrew Ruggieri\u00a0<\/strong>(Mike),\u00a0Nick Schrier<\/strong>\u00a0(Frank), and\u00a0Lilianna Solum<\/strong>\u00a0(Lois).<\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/strong>Director and Choreographer\u00a0<\/strong>of the production is\u00a0<\/strong>Luis Villabon<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>who will recreate\u00a0Michael Bennett\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>original iconic choreography. Villabon\u00a0was mentored by Tony Award winner andA Chorus Line<\/em>\u00a0original Broadway cast member, Baayork Lee. As an actor, he has appeared in\u00a0A Chorus Line<\/em>\u00a0as Butch once; Paul twelve times; Mike once; and Zach twice, totaling over 1,750 performances. His select\u00a0A Chorus Line\u00a0<\/em>re-staging credits include: the 2007 Italian National Tour; the 2009 South Korean National production in Seoul; the 2011 Japanese production in Tokyo; and he served as Associate Director for Antonio Banderas\u2019 2019-2022 Spanish language production\u00a0<\/em>in Spain.\u00a0Other credits include the Assistant Director\/Choreographer to Ms. Lee in\u00a0A New Brain<\/em>\u00a0(NYC) and\u00a0Jesus Christ Superstar\u00a0<\/em>(European Tour).\u00a0Among many other professional credits, he was also the Assistant Choreographer to Paula Abdul in\u00a0Reefer Madness<\/em>\u00a0(NYC).<\/p>\n

Joining Villabon in his PSF debut is Musical Director and Conductor\u00a0Andy Peterson<\/strong>. Hailing from Australia, he has worked on Broadway\u2019s\u00a0Tootsie,<\/em>\u00a0as well as being the noted composer of Broadway\u2019s\u00a0Razorhurst<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Stalker: The Musical.\u00a0<\/em>He was also the co-creator on the hit musical audio series\u00a0The World to Come<\/em>, for which he wrote more than 50 original songs.<\/p>\n

Broadway\u2019s\u00a0Michael McDonald<\/strong>\u00a0will design the costumes. Previous PSF credits include\u00a0Oklahoma!<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0West Side Story<\/em>. Nominated for a Tony, Drama Desk, and Hewes Award for his costume designs for\u00a0Hair\u00a0<\/em>on Broadway and in the West End, he holds numerous credits from Broadway, Off-Broadway, as well as regional theatres.<\/p>\n

Richard Latta<\/strong>,\u00a0who is the current and continuing Resident Lighting Designer for Ogunquit Playhouse (having designed hundreds of plays & musicals over the years) will design the lighting for the show. He has designed for\u00a0A Chorus Line<\/em>\u00a0twice previously.<\/p>\n

Sound design is by\u00a0David M. Greenberg<\/strong>, resident sound designer and sound supervisor for PSF and DeSales University.\u00a0 A member of the Theatrical Sound Designers and Composers Association (TSDCA), he holds an MFA in Theatre Sound Design and Technology from the Krannert Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.<\/p>\n

The production Stage Manager is\u00a0Randy Lawson<\/strong>\u00a0who has production stage managed three previous productions of\u00a0A Chorus Line<\/em>. His select\u00a0Broadway credits include:\u00a0The Phantom of the Opera<\/em>,\u00a0Sugar Babies<\/em>\u00a0(Broadway Revival Workshop), and\u00a0Million Dollar Quartet<\/em>\u00a0(National Tour).<\/p>\n

The rest of the creative team is assembled with Associate Director and Associate Choreographer\u00a0David Grindrod<\/strong>, whose credits include performing in\u00a0A Chorus Line<\/em>\u00a0on Broadway at New York City Center, and in the National Tour, Japan Tour, China Premier, and others.\u00a0Assistant Stage Manager (ASM)\u00a0Ashani Smith<\/strong>\u00a0returns to PSF following ASM for last summer\u2019s\u00a0A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream<\/em>.<\/p>\n

A Chorus Line<\/em>\u00a0features music by\u00a0Marvin Hamlisch<\/strong>, a book by\u00a0James Kirkwood<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Nicholas Dante,<\/strong>\u00a0with lyrics by\u00a0Edward Kleban<\/strong>. It was conceived and originally directed by\u00a0Michael Bennett<\/strong>.\u00a0Bob Avian<\/strong>\u00a0was the co-choreographer on the original Broadway production which was produced by The New York Shakespeare Festival,\u00a0Joseph Papp<\/strong>\u00a0Producer, in association with Plum Productions, Inc.<\/p>\n

Alvin H.
