Audition Tips:
Be prepared. Read the play. Be familiar with the circumstances and story. And familiarize yourself with your sides – you don’t need to be memorized, though it’s lovely if you are, but make sure you aren’t reading from the page for the first time.
Be friendly. Everyone auditioning is probably nervous and hoping to do their best, just like you might be.
Use your waiting time wisely. If you are waiting for your audition, look over your sides, take deep breaths, stretch – whatever helps you prepare yourself.
Dress appropriately. You don’t have to dress up for this audition. Wear something comfortable that allows you to be playful in the audition room.
Introduce yourself. When you enter the audition space, say hi, tell us your name, and what role you will be reading for.
Mistakes happen. If we want a perfect performance, we could watch a movie. In theatre, anything can happen, including mistakes. The same is true for auditions, so don’t worry if it’s not perfect. Enjoying the process and being playful is much more important.
Please note: in Much Ado About Nothing, many actors must be versatile; able to handle comedic and dramatic scenes. Make strong choices and have fun!
